Lost pet thermal drone recovery
When a pet goes missing, time is critical.
Our thermal drone system allows us to cover large wooded areas, farmland, marsh edges, and residential properties quickly — detecting body heat even in tall grass or low-light conditions.
Best suited for:
Dogs
Cats (rural/suburban areas)
Livestock
Recently missing pets
What to expect:
Rapid response (when available)
Aerial thermal grid search
Real-time monitoring on a large second screen
Coordinated ground guidance
We operate with compassion and urgency because we understand — they’re family.
When to Call:
Call as soon as possible if:
The first 12–24 hours are critical. The sooner we deploy, the higher the chance of detecting a strong heat signature or before the animal travels long distances.
If your pet has been missing more than 48 hours, call anyway — but earlier is always better.
You have a last known direction of travel
Your pet has recently been reported seen
Ground search has been unsuccessful
Early deployment significantly increases success rates.
Pricing & Deployment Fees:
At Chesapeake Thermal Drone Recovery, we believe in transparent, straightforward pricing. Every search is different, but our goal is simple: deploy quickly, search efficiently, and give you clear expectations before we arrive. Because time and weather matter in thermal recovery, we encourage calling as soon as possible.
$250 for the first hour once on site and $100 for each additional hour. Tips for exceptional service are welcome, but not required. Searches outside 20 miles, add $0.73 cents/mile.
Important Expectations:
When we arrive, we’ll speak with you and listen to what happened. How long has your pet been missing? Where was your pet last seen? Do you have a photo of your pet for reference? Has this ever happened before? After learning all the details, we’ll set up our gear and begin tracking. You see what we see on our secondary monitor!
Can thermal drones find any pet?
Thermal drones detect body heat, not fur color.
Success depends on:
Time since disappearance - the sooner we begin, the better!
Weather conditions - thermal conditions are best at night and cloudy days.
Thermal conditions are more difficult in hot weather.
Terrain (open fields vs dense forest)
Size of the animal. Larger animals produce larger heat signatures.
Whether the animal is still alive and mobile
Dogs have the highest recovery success rate. Cats are more challenging, especially in dense residential areas because they are more likely to under under objects .
What if my pet is hiding?
Thermal imaging can detect animals hiding in:
Tall grass
Brush lines
Wooded areas
Field edges
Marsh transitions
However, thick structures (under decks, inside sheds, heavy roof cover) may block heat detection. We cannot detect pets that may have been picked up and brought inside a car or house by someone intending to help the pet.
*NOTE* - If your pet is found, we will help coordinate ground recovery - our pilots will NOT recover your pet. Why do we do this? Lost pets are often scared and are likely to flee or even bite a stranger. Also if we pack up the drone to go recover your pet, there is a chance it will leave the area and we will have to begin the search again. Instead, we will provide a pin that you can scan with your phone that shows where the pet is, then keep “eyes” on the pet and assist in guiding you there.
Do you guarantee recovery?
Unfortunately no search method can guarantee results.
We significantly increase the probability of locating an animal — especially at night — but success depends on many environmental factors beyond our control. We will always give an honest assessment before launching.
